PS5X runs inside Xbox Developer Mode. The whole setup takes roughly 30–60 minutes, including the one-time Microsoft developer account registration. Follow the steps in order — this is the same procedure the build documentation expects, and there is no "one-click" version.
Go to the Microsoft Partner Center developer program and register as an individual developer. This is the account that authorizes your console to run unsigned development packages — it is the official Microsoft path, not a jailbreak.
On your Xbox (Retail Mode), search the Store for Xbox Dev Mode and install it. Open the app — it shows a one-time activation code and a local setup URL.
From Dev Home, open the activation link on your PC browser and sign in with the Partner Center account. Enter the code shown on the console and confirm activation. Activation ties your console hardware to your developer account.
In the Xbox Dev Mode app, select Switch and restart into Developer Mode. The console reboots into Dev Home. The first boot is noticeably slower than normal — this is expected. Do not unplug the console during this step.
On the Developer Mode dashboard (Dev Home), allocate storage for development apps (at least 5GB) and make sure the console is connected to your network. This 5GB foreground memory budget is PS5X's biggest constraint — see the compatibility list for why it matters.
In Dev Home, open Settings → Remote Access and enable the Xbox Device Portal. For security, tick "Require authentication" and set a username and password. Dev Home displays a local network address, for example:
https://192.168.1.50:11443You will open this address from your PC browser.
On your PC, go to the official KytyPS5 site and GitHub releases:
https://kytyps5.github.io/ https://github.com/KytyPS5/KytyPS5 → ReleasesDownload the latest Xbox build (the release name looks like "KytyPS5 for Xbox" — the build covered in this guide is 1.1.26291.1739). Extract the archive; you should have a package file (.appx or .msixbundle) plus possibly dependency files.
.appx / .msixbundle file (and its dependencies if requested) and click Start. In Dev Home, set the app type of the PS5X package to Game (View details → App type → Game) and restart the console. Then launch PS5X from the Dev Home app list.
eboot.bin).To play your normal Xbox games again: open Dev Home → Leave Dev Mode, and the console restarts in Retail Mode. Note that retail games and apps do not run while in Developer Mode, and switching modes clears Quick Resume states and local captures — sync saves to Xbox cloud before switching.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Error E208 during activation | You are still in the Xbox Insider / Update Preview program. Leave it, reboot, and re-run activation. |
| Device Portal won't load in the PC browser | Check the PC and console are on the same network; re-check the address and port in Dev Home (it ends in :11443); disable any VPN on the PC. |
| "Package failed" in the Device Portal | Install the dependency files alongside the .msixbundle, and make sure you downloaded the Xbox build (not the PC KytyPS5 build). |
| Game shows a black screen | Confirm the folder contains eboot.bin, lower the texture-quality setting, and verify your game files are a legally obtained, unmodified PS5 dump. |
| Controller buttons feel wrong | This is expected: A = Cross, B = Circle, X = Square, Y = Triangle. No DualSense adapter needed. |
