PS5X USB games: play straight from a drive

The Xbox port of KytyPS5 can run game folders and .zar archives directly from a USB drive — and keep saves, patches and trophies there too. That sidesteps internal storage limits and keeps the console's SSD free. Here is what that means and how to set it up.

Short version: PS5X supports games on a USB drive — game folders and .zar archives play from the drive, and saves, patches and trophies can live there as well. It is an official, documented feature of the Xbox fork, not a workaround.

Setup tips

Drive preparation

Use a USB 3.0+ drive or SSD for usable load times — PS5 dumps are large. Keep the drive formatted as a single readable volume (exFAT or NTFS are the safe choices on Windows/Xbox), and copy the game folder or .zar file to it.

First run

Launch PS5X in Developer Mode, point the library at the USB drive's folder, and let it scan for eboot.bin. The game appears in the library like any other title. If it fails, check the troubleshooting page — "Package failed" is about the emulator install, not the game file.
